We have recently held two new events, and have also started working with new groups of young people from Malet Lambert School Language College and the Archbishop Sentamu Academy. The recording studio is also being used more regularly and is featuring in a local news bulletin on Look North, as part of an insight into  BBC Children in Need funding.

Celebration of Light Party  This ‘alternative’ Halloween event was held to give young people in the area a chance to have fun, play games, sing songs and dance ( with party bags and prizes! ) instead of walking the cold, dark streets on the evening of Saturday 31st October.  Judi Murden from Radio Humberside visited the Project to find out more about the event, and kindly publicised it for us on their Sunday Morning programme. In all, about 35 gathered at Kingston Wesley to enjoy an evening of entertainment provided for us by Label of Love.  The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, and all who came enjoyed the event and the opportunity for fellowship.

Indoor Sports Day  Despite this event being attended by a relatively small group of young people, they all had a thoroughly good time, and have asked for the event to be repeated (although their request for it to be weekly was refused on the grounds of maintaining youth workers sanity!). We also had a surprise visit by John Prescott MP who had got wind of the activity, and he spent time chatting to the young people, staff and our Chair of Trustees, Peter Ogle.  He was accompanied by the new Labour candidate for East Hull, Karl Turner, who had a good look round the building and the facilities and was visibly impressed by the resources we have and the services we offer. Maxlife has been asked to take part in a future event planned by John Prescott in the form of an ‘everyman’s olympics’ in the Year 2012, of course to coincide with the ‘other’ Olympics in London.  The idea is for people of all ages from the East Hull area to take part in an Olympic style event at East Park, and for taster events, and training activities to be held during 2010 and 2011.  He was very keen for us to be involved, and we were only too pleased to say yes!  Again, visitors to the building are amazed at what lies behind the façade of Kingston Wesley which they admittedly drive past regularly without knowing what a jewel of a venue we have here!
